It’s often a term used in ones defense of regularly drinking red wine. The anthocyanins in red wine are healthy, you’ve probably even read that a glass of red wine every day can benefit your health. What isn’t usually brought up in the same argument is that cherries and raspberries actually contain more anthocyanins than red wine. None the less, there’s one fruit that simply takes the cake when it comes to anthocyanin content - and that’s the maqui berry! While red wine chirps in at 24-35mg per 100g, the maqui berry boasts anthocyanin levels of 800+mg per 100g.
So, if you have allergies you might want to get your hands on some maqui juice, as anthocyanins can lighten the affects of most allergies. Not only that, but they can prevent damage to connective tissues and repair proteins in the walls of your blood vessels. They even promote cardiovascular health by preventing oxidation of lipoproteins. Sure, you can get your anthocyanins from raspberries and cherries, but they contain less than half the anthocyanin content that the maqui berry has.
