This video is created by MonaVie to help demonstration the importance of taking care of your immune system, and how their relatively new product, (M)mūn, can help you stay healthy!
Our planet is home to a wide array of flora and fauna. Some of these are commonly known, others are of a yet undiscovered genus. Scientists have stumbled on stunning finds that have been known and utilized by indigenous people for centuries. Today, there is growing recognition in the West of the restorative powers of these exotic fruits.
Two of the most promising super fruits that have emerged are the Maqui berry and the Acai berry. In classification, these edibles belong to the berry family but are not typical table fare as say the blackberry, the raspberry, the strawberry, the cranberry or the blueberry. So when we look at Maqui versus Acai: who wins?
Pound-per-pound the antioxidant capabilities of the Maqui far outweighs the Acai. Using the Orac ratings, which test the antioxidant powers of foods, it has been shown that the frozen pulp Maqui has a 27,600 value per 100 gram serving. The 16,700 per 100 gram serving of the Acai falls far below the Maqui berry mark.
To expound on the crucial nature of antioxidants to the body’s functioning, visualize these scenarios. Imagine a simple paper napkin. Throw this in with stagnant, black water and it will almost instantly absorb the grime. Put it in a container of red food coloring and it will turn red, attaining the characteristics of its surroundings. Use it to wipe away an unclean surface and the dirt will be transferred to it. In effect, the paper napkin is like our physiological systems. External factors and matter consumed by us can cause dangerous free radicals to enter and build up in our bodies. Medical and health problems can arise from a failure to detox the system of these destructive molecules.
The Maqui berry’s superior force can rid the body of this waste. The Maqui’s powerful antioxidant capabilities roots out, sweeps, destroys and removes injurious foreign matter that circulates. The effect is a natural, regeneration of energy. Studies on the Maqui berry have demonstrated its ability to fix the ravages caused by aging, decrease inflammation, trigger cancer cell destruction and positively affect many small and large ailments. Added value of the Maqui comes in the form of weight loss that occurs naturally, as the body undergoes rejuvenation and purification from destructive free radicals.
In the final analysis, the Maqui berry wins the battle against the Acai due to its sky-high antioxidant abilities.

Monavie (M)mūn with Maqui Berry
MonaVie has recently launched a new beverage to it’s product lineup called (M)mūn - you pronounce that as em-mune. This new health beverage features a blend of the acai berry and the maqui berry along with MonaVie’s Wellmune.
The physical burden’s athletes put their bodies through are claimed to have similar effects to lack of sleep, poor diet and emotion strain. While I can’t seem to find a study monitoring the effects of Wellmune in a sleep deficiency case, there is some logic behind the comparison.
Wellmune is reported to boost the immune system, and a study included in the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine backs that claim up. Here is an excerpt from the study:
“In a four week study examining the effects of Wellmune in marathon athletes, participants who took Wellmune reported an improvement in their feelings of well being and in the maintenance of their overall health.”
But that’s enough about Wellmune - (M)mūn features 19 select fruits that are particularly beneficial for your immune system. These fruits are, of course, the maqui berry and the acai berry, as well as grape, apple, acerola, aronia, black currant, elderberry, cranberry, sea buckthorn, baobab, longonberry, camu camu and more!
I’ve never been disappointing with the taste of MonaVie products, but I haven’t had a chance to try this yet. Would anyone out there like to share their thoughts about Monavie (M)mūn? Post a comment!
I’ve written before about the outstanding ORAC value that the Maqui Berry achieves. As a quick reminder, the ORAC value is a measurement of a foods antioxidant strength. In short, antioxidants reduce the number of free radicals in the body. Free radicals are the cause of tissue breakdown, which causes everything from organ failure to wrinkled skin.
There are a few ways the antioxidant capacity of a food can be measured. There are 3 ways other than ORAC score to get an idea of the Maqui Berry benefits:
- DPPH - Free radical scavenging properties by the diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical
- FRAP - Ferric reducing antioxidant power
- TRAP - Total Radical Trappic Potential
- TEAC - Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity
The Journal of Agriculture & Food Chemistry recently released the results of tests which compared various foods against these antioxidant measurement techniques. These are the results:

Before the medical community can endorse any type of natural food whole-heartedly they will have to do years of due diligence. So far, however, the Maqui Berry is definitely grabbing the attention of the medical and nutritional communities alike.
